Why the Crusade?

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
Mark 16:15

Reflections

A new thing will be happening in the Hood County area in May this year.  By God’s grace, we will see a major evangelism effort involving a Billy-Graham-style Crusade.  This will be a cooperative endeavor of many of our County’s churches.  BUT WHY?  Why would these churches invest $180,000 in such a meeting?

Mark 16:15 at the beginning of this devotional contains the impetus for the Crusade.  Jesus Himself told His followers (that’s us!) to, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”  He commanded us to take the Good News about Him to everyone as we are going about our lives in the world.  Again, I ask, “WHY?’

Jesus provided the answer in the very next verse: “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” (Mark 16:16)

Apart from believing (trusting) in Jesus for our salvation, each of us is already condemned because of our sin. We are already under God’s judgment.

God loves every person and wants to be exalted in their lives. He wants us to relate to Him in Jesus so he can save us from the penalty of sin and give us a life filled with joy and peace as we let Jesus rule our lives. He sent Jesus to earth to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven of them and have life in fellowship with Himself.

God sent Jesus and Jesus is sending each of us. The job He gave us is to make Jesus known to people so that they can put their trust in Him, have their sins forgiven and know the joy of knowing Him.

Why the Crusade?  The Crusade is simply a useful way to get the Good News to people who might otherwise not get it.  Through it, many Hood Countians will be trained to share the Good News both as we live our lives and as we overtly seek to lead people to Jesus.  Through the Crusade, we are asking God to save at least 2,000 people who will surrender to Him, be trained and will join us in leading other people to Jesus.

None of this will happen without the fervent pray of many people like you and me.

Would you join us in asking God to move mightily and save many, many people in the Hood County area?  Would you ask Him to embolden His church to be obedient in sharing Jesus?

Many of us have been asking God to grow our congregations.  As we pray for the salvation of people though this Crusade, when He answers, those congregations that participate meaningfully can expect a burgeoning of their numbers almost overnight.  More than that, following the Crusade, as we become obedient to what Jesus commanded, we can expect that He will indeed give us the joy of personally leading people to Him.

Glory to His Holy Name!

Questions

Are you consciously seeking to lead people to Christ?

If not, what will you do about it?

Let's Pray

Father,
I have been disobedient to Jesus’ command to make Him known to others. Forgive me, God. Please fill me with your Spirit and lead me to people who need to know you. Go before me and prepare their hearts to receive the Good News that Jesus died for them and wants to give them new life with Him. Give me courage to speak with them about Jesus. Turn our conversation to Jesus and His love and save those I share with. Thank you for the privilege of sharing your love with people. May all the glory go to you!
Amen
